A new range of chain fittings is claimed by manufacturer Crosby to be 25 % stronger than comparable products and can be used with either Grade 8 or Grade 10 chains. The Crosby 8/10 chain system includes a selection of links, hooks and other fittings, meeting the requirements of both the Grade 10 (100) and Grade 8 (80) specifications.

Crosby director, Richard Oldknow, believes that very few suppliers worldwide offer such a comprehensive range of fittings. Size for size, the new chain fittings, made from forged alloy steel, offer 25 % more capacity than standard Grade 8 fittings - enabling them to lift heavier loads - and are fatigue rated at 1.5 times the working load limit at 20,000 cycles. Being heat treated the fittings are said to give advance warning, in the form of deformation, before breaking, if overloaded.
