New from Kobelco is a range of 'custom build' options for its 250 tonne capacity CKE2500-2 crawler crane. Applications include wind-turbine assembly, port, petrochemical and marine operations.

Special adaptations available from the Japanese manufacturer include narrow track, variable track width, emergency back- up systems, man-riding, special paint and high-capacity fixed jibs. The narrow track is 4.85 m with 1,070 mm shoes for travel on jetties, quays, and access roads found on, for example, wind farms.

The extendable and retractable crawler option offers three positions (7.47 m fully extended and 4.85 m wide over the tracks when fully retracted) all with corresponding lifting charts.

Explaining the custom build options scheme, Jos Verhulst, sales and marketing manager at Kobelco Cranes Europe Ltd., said, “By consulting Kobelco customers around the world and working through their special requests, Kobelco Engineering has come up with this highly flexible programme of options which enable cranes to be tailor-made for special applications, all from a standard basic list of special options, and without incurring the penalty costs and delays of unique 'one-off specials'.”
