Wisconsin, USA-based Dawes Rigging & Crane Rental put a Manitowoc 999 lattice boom crawler to work on the multimillion dollar expansion of the Acuity insurance company headquarters in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
The 250 tonne capacity 999 is lifting a range of materials, including precast concrete beams, columns and lintels, concrete buckets and steel beams. The heaviest loads weigh 11.75 US ton (10.66 tonnes) and the highest lifts have risen to 80 feet (24 metres). For this project, the crane was set up with 120 feet (37 m) of main boom and a 150 foot (46 m) luffing jib for a maximum tip height of 273 feet (83 m) and a maximum lifting radius of 210 feet (64 tonnes).
Dawes, a division of the All family of companies, said it chose the crane for its capacity and extra long reach. The crane’s 29,500 pound (13.4 tonne) line pull and 440 feet per minute (134 m/min) line speed were credited with enabling the project to stay on schedule. The headquarters expansion is not the first job that Dawes has overseen for Acuity. In 2014 the crane rental company used a Manitowoc 16000 to erect a 400 foot (122 m) tall flagpole, the tallest in the USA, the company said.
