Diversified fleets

Rental companies are diversifying their dumper fleets, says Chris Giles, area sales manager for Terex dealer Kellands (Plant Sales) Ltd, which covers Somerset and Cornwall in the UK.

“Rental companies are buying more specifically, going compact to meet particular needs”, he tells IRN. “People want machines to be more flexible, and high dump and swivel machines are becoming attractive to more users.

“Big contracts need smaller machines, too. [For example,] work to put in CCTV cabling along motorways is being done using compact machines. There is no need for big trenches. Accessing smaller areas with compact machines is growing.”

Ease-of-use, transportability, and lower costs appeal to non-professionals, too. “The rental market is getting bigger because of private users,” says Mr Giles.
