Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment has agreed an alliance with Italian telehandler manufacturer Dieci to offer four Dieci-produced high capacity telehandlers under the Doosan brand.

Doosan will have the rights to sell the handlers in Europe and the Middle East initially, but there is a possibility that this will be extended further in the future. The range - which will be available from the end of this year - offers maximum lift heights of 10 m and lifting capacities from 7 to 21 t, larger than any of the Bobcat branded handlers produced in Europe.

The 16 t capacity DT160 is being shown on the Doosan stand at Bauma.

Jae Jong Jin, vice president heavy product management & Parts at Doosan in Europe, told IRN that the cooperation with Dieci allowed Doosan to quickly enter a niche handler market without having to invest in research and development.

Mr Jin said he anticipated sales of around 40 units a year for the handlers.

The decision to brand the telehandlers as Doosan products rather than Bobcat, which is a well-known telehandler name, was made in accordance with Doosan's strategy to reserve the Bobcat name for compact equipment and Doosan for heavy machines.

The four Dieci-made handlers fall into the heavy bracket and, said Mr Jin, will not have the same customer base as the Bobcat telehandlers.

The new handlers can be combined with more attachments than comparable cranes or forklifts, said Doosan; "allowing the operator to use one machine for carrying out jobs that would normally require two or more different machines."

For example, they can use buckets up to 4.5 m³ in volume, making the well suited to loading applications.

With levelling as standard, the new high capacity telehandlers offer compact dimensions, an off-road design, and travel speeds up to 36 km/h.

The smallest model in the range is the DT70 telehandler which has a maximum lift capacity of 7 t, a maximum lift height of 9.65 m and a maximum forward reach of 5.4 m. The DT70 is driven by the Iveco NEF-TA diesel engine providing 93 kW of power at 2200 rpm.

The next larger model, the DT120, offers a maximum lift capacity of 12 t, a maximum lift height of 9.4 m and a maximum forward reach of 4.9 m. Power is provided by the 106 kW Perkins 1104D-ETA diesel engine.

The two largest models - the DT160 and the DT210 - both have a maximum lift height of 10.2 m and maximum forward reach of 5.15 m, with maximum lift capacities being 16 and 21 t, respectively. Both the DT160 and DT210 are driven by the Perkins 1106D-ETA diesel engine providing 146 kW of power at 2200 rpm.
