EDA Convention joins list of cancelled events

The European Demolition Association (EDA) has announced the cancellation of this year’s Annual Convention, which was schedule for Belgrade, Serbia, from 10 to 12 June.

It joins a growing list of cancelled events in the demolition industry, which already includes the US National Demolition Association Expo and Germany’s Deutscher Abbruchverband, both originally set for next month.

The EDA Convention, including its gala dinner, last took place in Vienna, Austria, in 2018

The cancellation is also a third in 12 months for the EDA, following last June’s scheduled event – also due to have taken place in Belgrade – and an attempt to rearrange the convention for Paris last September.

The association now hopes to stage the gathering next year. If it is successful, it will end a run of four years without an annual convention dating back to Vienna in 2018.

“Due to the current situation, most of the events planned for 2021 are being cancelled or postponed to 2022,” the EDA said.

“As expected, given the current situation and the preventive measures being taken in different countries, 2021 looks set to be another year without major events, at least in the demolition sector.

“One example can be found in the National Demolition Association (NDA), which has been forced to cancel Demolition New Orleans and confidently expects to hold its Demolition Convention and Expo in San Diego at the end of February 2022.

“The same has happened with the German Demolition Association (DA), which has cancelled its Special Demolition Conference 2021 and has set a new date for the first quarter of 2022, to be precise, on 11 March.

“In this sense, the European Demolition Association (EDA) has also decided to cancel its Annual Convention, which was to be held in Belgrade in June. For the sake of responsibility and precaution, we have preferred to wait until the situation is more stable to reunite all of us in person. Probably, and hopefully, in 2022.”
