FCC-Odebrecht-Alstom consortium wins Panama City Metro contract

01 November 2010

A consortium comprising FCC, Odebrecht and Alstom have won the US$ 1.45 billion contract to construct Panama City's Metro Line 1. The figure includes construction work and the provision of rolling stock.

Line 1 of the city's metro will be 14 km long and include 11 stations, both on the surface and underground. FCC and Odebrecht will handle construction work, while Alstom will provide the trains, and ground is expected to be broken on the project on January, with completion targeted for December 2013

Bidding for the project is reported to have finally come down to two preferred bidders - the Spanish-Brazilian-French consortium that eventually won it, and an all-Italian group comprising Impregilo, Astaldi and Ghella on the construction side, with Ansaldo Breda providing the trains.

The losing consortium has three days to appeal the decision if it wishes.
