The first pictures of Kobelco's new 300 tonne capacity Light Configuration version of the SL4500 crawler crane have been released.

The new crane, an adaptation of the standard 400 tonne model, first shown at Intermat in April, features a new upper-frame and reduced counterweight configuration - 80 tonnes less than the standard version.

The aim was to produce a high capacity version of the SL4500 with increased flexibility and reduced costs through easier transportation and set up, said Kobelco.

With a load-moment of 2,140 tonne metres, the Light Configuration offers a maximum luffing jib configuration of a 66 m fly on a 66 m main boom, giving a maximum tip height of 132 m.

The swing-away cab and boom mounted winches reduce the weight and dimensions of the base machine - further simplifying transportation and assembly, added Kobelco.

First deliveries will commence early in 2010, but customer names and destinations have not yet been released.
