Germany-based Gottwald Port Technology has reported a record number of mobile harbour crane sales during 2005. Customers around the world ordered 76 new cranes compared with 66 in 2004 and 62 in 2003.

Dirk Kiessling, Gottwald CEO and CFO, said, “In 2006 Gottwald will celebrate its 100th anniversary. With this in mind the success of 2005 is particularly pleasing and worthy of special mention. The good results are confirmation that our strategy aiming at offering a broad spectrum of state-of-the art solutions and products for all kinds of cargo handling applications is sound. We have strengthened our worldwide presence and reinforced our position in many important international markets.”

The company said that the Middle East and Latin America were the two most significant markets for growth during 2005 and there were also strong orders from the US and Far East, and one from the company's first Thailand-based customer. Gottwald said it had customers in 83 countries.

The record orders helped Gottwald post a turnover of €237 million (US$ 283 million) for the fiscal year 2004/2005.
