Failure of the ground on which construction plant stands and moves can cause minor incidents, near misses, serious injuries and fatalities

The Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) in the UK has invited the industry to submit feedback on a new guidance document Ground Conditions for Construction Plant.

The document is available as a draft for public comment. It deals with ground bearing pressure and loadings from mobile plant, and assessment and engineering of the ground’s capability to withstand the loadings, a CPA spokesperson said. Co-ordination of duties, with reference to CDM and to temporary works, is also included, as is technical guidance.

Participating organisations included HSE, the Environment Agency, UKCG, CECA, Temporary Works Forum and specialist contractor organisations.

All comments must be submitted by Tuesday 1 July 2014. The draft document and the form are here.
