A US marine shipyard is using a Jd Neuhaus Eh 50 Monorail hoist to handle and manipulate ship segments. The Unit Has A 25 % Overload rating, handling up to 62.5 tonnes. The EH 50 has two drive mechanisms that allow the hoist to lift in confined spaces. It can also be used in hazardous areas, since the compressed air used as the driving medium is safe for use in explosive atmospheres. If the area is particularly high risk, protection against metallic sparking can be specified.

One of the shipyard's specific requirements was to allow the travel motors to free run when lifting. This solution allows the operator to open the brakes of the drive motors once the hoist is parked over the ship segment load so that when lifting starts, the EH 50 aligns itself above the centre of gravity, allowing safer lifting.
