US: Structural steel construction at the Foster & Partners-designed Hearst Tower, New York, US is now complete. Construction of the 46 storey, 93000 m2, 182 m high, started in February last year, is now expected to be completed in June 2006, ahead of schedule. It is being constructed above the preserved facade of the company's old sixstorey headquarters at 959 Eighth Avenue. The tower's ‘diagrid’ frame contains about - 20% less steel than a conventional perimeter frame would, saving approximately 2000 tonnes of steel. Each triangle in the diagrid is four stories tall (16.5 m).
