Larsen & Toubro Constructions – the power transmission and distribution business of L&T – has been awarded a US$817 million contract for electrification work in Qatar.

The Indian conglomerate will build 30 gas insulated substations across the country (on an EPC basis), as part of its biggest contract win in the country.

Awarded by the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation, as part of its ongoing electricity expansion plan, the deal will also see L&T Constructions lay some 560 km of underground cables.

According to reports, the work will take place at both new sites and those already developed, and is scheduled for completion in phases between 15 and 32 months.
