A Laing O'Rourke and Bachy Soletanche Joint venture has won the HK$ 1039 million (€ 109 million) contract for the underground construction of a section of the approach tunnels for the West Kowloon station complex on Hong Kong's mass transit system.

The contract is part of the Mass Transit Railway Corporation's Guangzhou-Shenzen-Hong Kong express rail link and will involve construction of tunnels using the cut and cover technique for the station's northern approaches.

Laing O-Rourke's managing director in Hong Kong, Mike Robins said, "The express rail link project is part of a major investment programme in rail infrastructure in Hong Kong, and we are delighted to be appointed with our partner to construct one of the initial sections of this complex and challenging development."
