Hong Kong's first Liebherr LTR 1100 crawler crane has been delivered to rental specialist Chim Kee for work on a 30-storey twin-tower government housing project in Hung Hom.

the 100 tonne maximum lifting capacity telescopic crane has been downrated to a 50 tonne capacity at 54 m boom length. This was to meet the loadings of a steel platform erected over the 10 m deep basement of the housing project.

The Liebherr crawler is being used to lift and place steel girders and 40 mm diameter rebar to the basement level. By opting to install the steel deck over 75% of the site, the contractor Shun Tak Yee Fai Joint Venture was able to speed up erection of the basement's steel girders and concrete deliveries. It also allowed temporary parking for delivery trucks to the site and prevented congestion in the busy narrow roads around the site.

Shun Tak Yee Fai Joint Venture started work on the project in October 2009, as part of a 30 month contract. Occupying a 40 x 90 m area, the project will include a four-storey retail and recreation podium above the two basement levels. Two 30-storey towers will rise from the podium.
