Liebherr loyalty continues

UK crane supplier Chamberlain Crane Hire has ordered a new LTM 1070-4.2 mobile crane with VarioBase and double fly jib. It is to replace an older 70 tonne Liebherr crane the company was using.

Although Liebherr says Chamberlain Crane Hire was a long-standing and loyal Liebherr customer, it took nothing for granted as Chamberlain's managing director, Andy Tutt, sets the bar high. "Here at Chamberlain Crane Hire we are looking for cranes that push the boundaries in every aspec," Tutt commented. Fortunately for Liebherr, it had nothing to worry about. "The Liebherr LTM1070-4.2 is, in my opinion, the best 70 tonne crane on the market," Tutt enthused.

Liebherr says its mobile crane has a number of features that has made it so appealing to Chamberlain. For example, it states its VarioBase system enables each crane support to be extended to any length with the crane operation made safe by the load moment limiter within the LICCON control. Liebherr says the Variable Supporting Base ensures higher lifting capacities and a larger working range, even with a maximum support base, with the largest increases made in the operating ranges directly above the supports.

Liebherr also says that the four-axle crane is able to carry the majority of its ballast when it is on the road. This means that it is ready for use once it reaches the job site. The LTM 1070-4.2 has a 50 m telescopic boom, active, speed-dependent rear-axle steering, and pneumatic disk brakes.

Liebherr has also made improvements to the drivers' cabs of all LTM cranes. For Chameberlain's LTM 1070-4.2 this means an updated interior design with a colour-coordinated dashboard, interior trim and floor mats and redesigned display and keypad units. Liebherr says the use of more modern colours not only looks good but improves the legibility of control and display elements of the driver’s cab. In the future, a smartphone holder and USB charging socket will also be standard features. Enhanced safety features include daytime running lights and fog lights as standard. The headlights have been integrated into the bumper trim for improved aesthetics.

Tutt is so pleased with his purchase he is already planning his next Liebherr replacement. "The next machine we're looking to upgrade later this year will be our LTM1095-5.1 and it looks like Liebherr has got a four-axle 90 tonner in development and, from what I've seen, it's going to be another great leap forward."
