MEC to enter boom market

10 April 2008

Company president Jim Tolle told AI it will present the first model, a 40 ft (12 m) working height, diesel telescopic boom, the M40T (illustrated), at the Rental Show. A model with a 6 ft (1.8 m) jib, the M46TJ, and the first articulated machine, the M45AJ, will be available in January 2009.

“Now is the right time [to launch booms]”, he said, “Other manufacturers have aggressively launched booms, but there is not a lot of commonality among their products”. MEC said the designs are “brand new” and will share common drives, chassis, turrets, and power and hydraulic systems.

Other planned booms include the M66TJ, to debut at the 2009 ARA show, and the M60AJ and M80T, which will be launched in the same year. An 85AJ will be available from mid-2010, and models the M35AJ, M130T and M140TJ will emerge in 2011.
