Rochester, MN-based Midwest Specialized Transportation will be closing its doors after 55 years in business.

Anderson Trucking Service (ATS) purchased the company in 2007 from owners Al and Anne Koenig. Midwest Specialized continued to operate as a subsidary.

Within the next 60 days, ATS will fully absorb Midwest Specialized. According to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, the layoffs of approximately 58 employees will begin August 1.

ATS Chief Operating Officer Mike Lakmann described the merger as being “a strategic decision due to changes in the marketplace and shipper demands.”

Midwest Specialized was founded in 1967 and focuses on heavy haul, specialized, step deck and dry van offerings.
