The parameters of the three Favelle Favco luffing tower cranes working on the Burj Dubai are being monitored by LS420 systems from Load Systems International of Texas, US. The units, which use line readers to read the rope tension, are monitoring the hook height, wind speed, load, boom angle and chart capacity, which are logged into the display and downloaded to a Palm Pilot. The information is used by contractors, Samsung, to produce management reports on productivity, including pick start and stop times, hook height, wind speed and weight lifted, together with checks that the weight criterion is maintained on each floor.
