New Goldhofer for USA

15 April 2008

Goldhofer has launched a hydraulic heavy transport trailer system for the North American market, writes Gino Koster. The German manufacturer based the design of the new THP/DL on its THP range of hydraulic modular trailers with all-wheel steering.

The THP/DL is a road legal trailer system, according to Goldhofer, that suits the specific road regulation requirements of most US states. To achieve this it uses the so-called dual lane (DL) concept. It allows the trailer to be configured in the conventional modular way and each module can also be widened in three steps from 16 to 18 or 20 feet (5 to 5.5 or 6 m). The DL concept allows for higher axle loadings on public roads compared to the standard wheelbase of heavy haul trailers. It is especially suitable for the Super Load segment, the manufacturer said.

The trailer system can be run in drawbar or gooseneck configuration with, for example, spacers, drop decks or vessel bed. Other options include bolsters in dolly set-up, with or without girder beams. Due to the US Dollar to Euro exchange rate, Goldhofer offers the option of having these accessories produced in the USA or Canada. Another option is to continue using existing accessories in combination with the THP/DS modular trailers.

The first set of 10-axle lines THP/DL, including turntables and gooseneck, has been delivered.
