Manitowoc has appointed SB Siam as its sole dealer for Potain tower cranes in Thailand.

Based in Bangkok, SB Siam sells top slewing and self erecting cranes throughout the country. The majority of the cranes are supplied from the Manitowoc factory in Zhangjiagang, China, but others come from the company's factories in India and Europe.

SB Siam was founded by managing director Somsak Bunchorntavakul, formerly general manager of the construction equipment division at Teo Hong Silom Co Ltd. Teo Hong Silcom was Manitowoc's previous dealer for Potain in Thailand, representing the brand until 2004.

Some of the biggest contractors in Thailand are using Potain tower cranes, including Bouygues Thai Ltd., Thai Obayashi Corp Ltd., Ritta Co Ltd., and Italthai Industrial Company, said Bunchorntavakul.

Victor Chan, sales director for tower cranes at Manitowoc in Asia (outside China), said having SB Siam represent the Potain brand would strengthen its position in Thailand. "We made this appointment because of SB Siam's proven relationship with Manitowoc and our Potain brand. The company has an excellent relationship with our customers and provides top level service," explained Chan. "I have every confidence that the appointment of SB Siam will increase our market share for tower cranes in Thailand."

SB Siam will offer cranes from Potain's full product range and will also be a dealer for Manitowoc Crane Care, supplying parts, service and technical data.
