Official launch of Terex crawler

Terex Cranes has officially announced the launch of the 650 tonne capacity Superlift 3800 lattice boom crawler crane.
IC exclusively revealed last month that a crane in this capacity class was under development by Terex. It can now be confirmed that the Superlift 3800 has a load moment rating of 8,426 tonne metres and is the successor to the popular 600 tonne capacity CC 2800-1 crawler.
“This is a very important launch for Terex. Improving an already great crane, we created a completely new one but leveraging our customer driven innovation process which combines our experience with a focus on solving the needs of the customer,” said Kevin Bradley, Terex Cranes president.
Features available on the CC 2800-1 were improved, while new ones were added. For example, the Superlift 3800 comes with the Terex Cranes Fall Protection System, winner of the ESTA 2012 Safety Award. Additionally, a protective railing has been installed around the superstructure. The new cabin design provides a larger view area and side outriggers, equipped with hydraulic cylinders and pressure sensors, allow the operator to monitor ground pressure when mounting or dismounting long boom lengths. System rigidity has also been improved, for example the LF light extension can now lift loads up to 178 tonnes.
Capacities have been improved by 20%, compared to its predecessor. “When we started this project, we set ambitious goals,” said Hans-Peter Franzen, project director, “and I am proud to say we have exceeded them.”
The Superlift 3800 can be delivered with an integrated wind kit in a universal main boom system, meaning it can erect 117 m high wind turbines without using the available superlift boom configuration. An assist crane is not required to help erect the main boom.
All erections and transportation elements are designed to provide the highest return on investment, added the company. Despite considerably higher rigidity, Terex managed to reduce the weight of the basic machine by 17 tonnes, improving the crane’s transportability.
The measurements and weight of components have been designed for ease of transport, and include additional hoisting points, central hoisting points and hydraulic motors within the track frame to reduce transport size and prevent damage during transportation. The Superlift 3800 conforms to the European EN 13000 and the US ASME 830.5.
