A new precast concrete factory that is being built by China Wu Yi Precast on the outskirts of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, is expected to revolutionise construction in the African country.

Having invested $100 million in the project, the Chinese firm is now putting the final touches on the three-storey facility.

According to the company’s deputy general manager, Lin Yihua, the factory will start to supply ready-made elements for residential construction in July. These include interior wall panels, slabs, beams, columns and staircases for apartment buildings.

With regard to precast concrete, Yihua said, “The technology is currently evolving and we are keen to introduce it to Kenya and other African countries. High quality, cheaper and environmentally friendly construction materials will fuel Kenya’s growth.”
