Saudi Arabian road investment plan

27 October 2008

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Transportation is to spend SAR 120 million (US$ 31.9 million) on new roads in the capital Jeddah in an effort to combat increasing congestion problems, according to local media reports.

The Transportation Ministry and the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs will carry out the project. No details of the tenders and contracts were given.

The new roads will include the Al Haramin road, King Abdul Aziz Airport road, Al -Corniche, and the Jeddah and Damascus link. The Jeddah roads link several cities in the western region including Makkah, Madinah, and the under-construction King Abdullah Economic City.

The Ministry of Transportation is also currently studying a much larger plan for the whole country, said the report.
