News that China could soon be a net exporter of steel may have an impact of the world price of scrap. In North America, for example, where a very weak dollar combined with huge demand from China, scrap steel exports have doubled since 2000 and now stand at around 12 million tons a year. On many demolition projects, the high scrap price has significantly added to margins or has at least made jobs viable.
