Spanish port operator extends Konecranes fleet

20 July 2017

Noatum Terminal Castellon, part of Spanish port operator Noatum Maritime, has added another Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour crane to its fleet. The Model 6 machine has been put into operation in May in Castellón, Spain where it handles mainly bulk cargo. The new 125 t diesel-electric machine is expected to contribute to the further growth of the terminal, which is situated some 80 km north of Valencia.

Noatum Terminal Castellon hopes to ‘extend and optimise’ its bulk activities with the purchase of a Model 6 Gottwald mobile harbour crane from Konecranes

According to Konecranes, the Model 6 is its most popular mobile harbour crane. It said the crane is rugged and designed for high-performance applications with its load capacity up to 125 t, maximum working radius of 51 m and lifting speeds of up to 120 m/min. It is available in many variants, including four-rope grab variants with 40 t (A8 classification) and 50 t (A7 classification) grab curves. The crane can be used with ships up to post-Panamax and Capesize Bulker class, said Konecranes. The Model 6 has been designed to enable easy servicing and port operators can choose between three tower variants, with corresponding crane geometries and different viewing heights for the crane operator, to adapt the crane to their individual requirements.

Joaquin Ramon Lestau, CEO, Noatum Terminal Castellon, said, “With this Gottwal Model 6 crane, we aim to extend and optimise our bulk activities. As we also offer all kinds of cargo handling services in our terminal in Castellon, the machine will allow us to load and unload all kinds of commodities including project cargo and containers. Given this variety of tasks, it was logical to opt for the particularly versatile mobile harbour crane technology from Konecranes. Moreover, since Noatum already operates seven Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour cranes of different sizes and generations in other port terminals, this new investment proves, beyond any doubt, how we value the reliability of the machines from Konecranes.”

Giuseppe Di Lisa, sales and marketing director of the mobile harbour cranes division at Konecranes, commented, “For more than 15 years, Noatum has regularly ordered Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour cranes. We are proud that a long-term customer and leader in its market continues to rely on our technology. The fact that the machine will handle a wide range of cargo types confirms once again one of the key benefits of our mobile harbour cranes, which is their high degree of versatility.”
