Despite the down economy, Teupen USA forged ahead and opened its first US facility in Charlotte, NC on June 26. The new facility will house offices for staff and sales people, as well as a warehouse space for parts and service. The building also includes a hydraulics workshop and will offer Teupen the space to complete repairs on equipment.

Roderik Wiedemeier, president and CEO of Teupen USA, said the company decided in April 2008 to open a US facility and in the fall of '08, with the economy slowly sinking, decided to stay the course. Wiedemeier says their goal is to grow from a $50 million company they are now to $150 million company and expand their dealer network.

Representatives from Sunbelt Rentals, United Rentals and H&E Equipment rentals, amongst various Teupen business partners, attended the open house event. Klaus Becker, president of the NC chapter of German-American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern US and president of Nirosteel, LLC, spoke at the event, as well.

Teupen specializes in manufacturing work platforms on rubber tracks with 13 versions of its LEO line, which features working heights between 39 and 164 feet. Built to be light weight and compact, Teupen's units can slide through a single doorway and work not only on construction sites but also on sensitive floorings such as sand, golf courses and nature stone surfaces.
