Transport company Steder Group Djibouti has completed the transport of six transformers in Ethiopia.

Four of the transformers weighed 98 tonnes and the remaining two weighed 117 tonnes and measured 5.2 metres tall. The transformers were transported from Djibouti port to Gebre Guracho and Chancho in Ethiopa. The route was 1,050 km.

Due to the height of the cargo, the convoy had to use several bypass roads and electricity cables had to be lifted along the way. The rainy weather also created some problems, causing the gravel roads to become flooded and slippery. On certain occasions, graders and or dozers had to be used so the convoy could pass, a spokesperson said.

Despite the difficult conditions, all six transformers were delivered to site. Steder Group Dijbouti is a member of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) and is Cargo Equipment Experts (CEE) member for Djibouti.
