Vinci in € 450 million stadium agreement

28 July 2011

Vinci has signed a memorandum of understanding with developer OL Groupe over a contract to design and construct the Olympique Lyonnais stadium, known as "the stadium of light", in Rhône, eastern France.

The 60000-seater facility will be located in Decines-Charpieu, a suburb of Lyon, and replace the existing Gerland stadium. Construction work on the new stadium is expected to be worth around € 381 million, while the construction of hotels, leisure centres and office buildings in the vicinity bring the total estimated contract value to € 450 million.

The fine details of the contract will be negotiated over the next six months, after which the contract is expected to be signed and construction will begin. The stadium is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2014.

A consortium bid led by Vinci was also recently shortlisted to win a 30-year public private partnership (PPP) contract to design, build and maintain a new 40000 seat stadium in Bordeaux, France.

The consortium, known as Stade Bordeaux Atlantique, consists of Vinci subsidiaries GTM Bâtiment Aquitaine-Limousin and Faure Silva, together with French contractor Fayat. Architects Herzog & de Meuron and Groupe 6 have been appointed to help with the design, assisted by Stadia Consulting.

The Bordeaux stadium will be able to host international sporting events as well as serving as a cultural facility, hosting concerts and shows. It is scheduled for completion in 2015.
