Vinci’s Strasbourg project

16 January 2012

Vinci Concessions has been named as the preferred bidder for the concession contract for the A355 western Strasbourg bypass by the French Ministry for Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport & Housing (MEDDTL).

The 55-year contract covers the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of a new 24km section of toll motorway.

Initially a two-lane dual carriageway, the section may be widened to three lanes in each direction without additional land take.

The road forms the bypass around Strasbourg to the north and west through the Kochersberg region, and links the A4 to the A35/A352 junction. The total investment is said to amount to around €750 million.

The design-build joint venture will comprise companies from Vinci's three contracting businesses - Vinci Construction, Eurovia and Vinci Energies. The work is expected to take 52 months.

Operation and maintenance of the section will be carried out by Vinci Autoroutes, and the concession operator's remuneration will come from the tolls collected.
