Vinci wins Hong Kong transit contract

French contractor Vinci has been awarded a €280 million (US$ 360 million) contract to construct a 4 km long tunnel for the new Hong Kong Shatin to Central Link (SCL) mass transit line.

The contract includes the development of a 2,475 m drill and blast tunnel and 1,400 m twin tunnels to be excavated by a 7.4 m diameter slurry tunnel-boring machine.

Construction began on 22 October 2012 and is scheduled for completion in mid 2018.

The development of the new SCL line includes a 12 km underground mass transit line, four new stations and the reconfiguration of two interconnecting stations. The work is split into 10 main contracts.
