Volvo Rents has added another Californian rental company to its list of recent acquisitions, buying Rental Solutions, a three-branch operation with stores in Napa Valley, Santa Rosa, and Cloverdale.

Mark Nichols, who co-founded Rental Solutions in 2002, will remain with the business as general manager of the three locations.

Volvo Rents has embarked on a strategy of buying dozens of small, independent rental companies in the US to expand its network. It has been very active in California, announcing in March the acquisition of Max Equipment Rentals.

Mr Nichols said Volvo Rents' national presence and recognised brand made the decision to join the network an easy one; "Our customers can be assured that Volvo Rents understands their needs and will exceed their expectations through a high level of care and commitment to local decision-making."

Volvo Rents said California's economy had started to grow again "and will see strong economic growth over the near- and long-term, translating into greater construction activity.

"The acquisition of Rental Solutions is a strategic move that will further strengthen our presence in California and puts us in a favourable position to meet what will undoubtedly translate into a growing demand for construction equipment rental."

The three stores carry a wide range of equipment and tools and will also stock Volvo's expanding range of compact equipment, including backhoe loaders, skid steer loaders, compact wheeled loaders and compact excavators.
