Wacker opens new €10 million R&D facility

The ribbon has been cut on Wacker Neuson’s new €10 million research and development (R&D) centre for construction equipment, which it recently added to its Reichertshofen site, just outside Munich in Germany.

In the 50 years that the manufacturer of light construction equipment has been located at the site, new buildings have regularly been added in order to meet increasing demand for its products.

The latest expansion is a 3,500m² four-storey office building and R&D centre, with working areas that are primarily oriented towards research and development. Both new equipment in the development phase and currently produced models are extensively tested in the 3,000m² state-of-the-art test facility.

Wacker Neuson had previously carried out its research and development in Munich, but according to the company’s new chief sales officer, Alexander Greschner, “The reason for bringing it here was to bring it close to manufacturing, sales and all the other product management – to have it in one spot.”

This, he said, would “enhance communication and improve speed and efficiency”.

In line with this expansion, the company is also increasing production at the site. Technology that is currently being designed, developed and produced there includes all of its vibratory plates and rammers, internal and external vibrators, demolition breakers, floor saws and light balloons.

Wackner Neuson said its development activities were focused on product safety and environmental protection.
