WDS 2023 - EDF to speak on decommissioning challenges

Demolition & Recycling International is delighted to announce that two speakers from Électricité de France (EDF) have joined the conference programme for this year’s World Demolition Summit (WDS).

The utility’s deconstruction projects director Pierre Migny-Torres will be joined by his colleague, site director and technical deconstruction advisor Alexandre Druet, to outline the challenges faced by clients in achieving a reduction of fossil fuel power plants.

At WDS 2023 (Toronto, Canada, 17 and 18 October) they will also present examples of how the company is working with demolition contactors to bring this about.

EDF has been pursuing a greener energy mix for more than two decades and already has its programme mapped out for the next 15 years.

“Considering the high risk of this type of activities, the constant evolution of the regulation regarding waste and hazardous materials, and the technical challenges onsite, how can a client organise itself to address this type of decommissioning programme?” said Pierre Migny-Torres.

“As a specifier, what are the main issues to prepare a contract, select a contractor, and keep a relationship with all the contractors to always improve and focus on safety results?”

Pierre has been in charge of implementing the fossil fuel power plants deconstruction programme at EDF since 2021, while Alexandre has worked on deconstruction projects at the company since 2007.

They join earlier confirmed speakers Brian Priestly (Priestly Demolition, Canada) and Tom Koerner (Thompsons of Prudhoe, United Kingdom) on the conference programme.

The World Demolition Summit is organised by D&Ri in cooperation with the US National Demolition Association and the European Demolition Association. Headline sponsor is Volvo Construction Equipment.
