Schmidbauer has taken delivery of a Liebherr LTM 1350-6.1 all terrain crane.

The Germany-based crane services company put the 350 tonne capacity machine to work for the first time at Mondi paper factory in Raubling, Bavaria.

It was used to lift a paper machine drying cylinder, weighing nearly 15 tonnes, out of its position in the factory and replace it with a new one.

The most suitable place for the LTM 1350-6.1 was 46 metres away from the drying cylinder. The crane was configured with 100 tonnes of ballast and a 42 m luffing jib. A challenge was manoeuvring the loads through a narrow opening in the factory roof.

Schmidbauer managing director Werner Schmidbauer explained the reasons for purchasing the LTM 1350-6.1. "It is the most powerful crane in its class and, at 70 metres in length, the telescopic boom is a definite move forwards in this segment.

"With the new Liebherr crane we can cover the requirements when it comes to moving really heavy loads, and it's also very well suited for operations in the wind power sector, for example, when it comes to moving the wind power components around, and the maintenance of the systems," Schmidbauer added.
