Dieci refreshes manufacturing approach

Italian construction equipment producer Dieci has introduced changes to streamline workflows at its Montecchio Emilia facility.

The company, which produces telehandlers, telescopic wheeled loaders, truck mixers, site dumpers and special purpose machines, said its Kaizen Project targeted continuous quality improvement and work simplification from the bottom up.

Dieci’s facility in Montecchio Emilia covers 120000m² including a test field, warehouses, research centres and its production factory, with nine assembly lines and four finishing departments, and much more.

Dieci said that under traditional organisation, workers and machines were frequently moving about, resulting in disruption, waste and delays.

But it said that by implementing a Kaizen approach, the nine old production lines and four downstream departments would be replaced with six modern flow channels turning out finished products ready for transportation.

Every workstation along these Flow Channels will have its own specially assigned workers, and the necessary materials will be supplied to them on dedicated carts.

It said there would be no more interruptions due to searches for materials and no more clutter in the work areas - two conditions that led to time being wasted and caused inconvenience to workers.

And along with a range of other initiatives, the manufacturer said it would also be increasing training for staff at every level.
