Enel Green begins construction of major solar energy project in Brazil

Italian company Enel Green Power has announced the construction of a US$ 400 million solar power plant in Brazil.
The Ituverava solar plant will generate 254 mW of power and is the largest of a number of renewable energy projects currently being undertaken in the country by Enel Green.
Expected to be in service by 2017, the Ituverava plant will contribute to a total of 1.65 GW of electricity generated in Brazil by Enel Green projects.
When completed, the plant will supply more than 550 GWh per year, enough to meet the annual energy consumption needs of around 268,000 households in Brazil.
The Ituverava project was awarded to Enel Green through a competitive auction in November 2014.
A second auction, in 2015, saw the company win 553 mW of a potential 834 mW capacity on offer.
It is reported that Enel Green plans to invest almost US$ 10 billion over the next five years, primarily in the enhancement of generation capacity.
The company will look to add over 7 GW of new capacity before the end of this decade, predominantly in Chile, Mexico, and Brazil.
