Genie debuts bi-energy RT scissors

Genie debuted its new 69-inch, bi-energy, hybrid, rough terrain scissor lift series to a handful of editors at its Moses Lake, WA facility this week. The company will officially unveil the Genie BE scissors at The Rental Show, Feb. 9-12 in Orlando.

The Genie BE69 series includes three models: the 26-foot GS-2669, 33-foot GS-3369 and the 40-foot GS-4069. The units have an on-board integrated generator that charges the unit's batteries and also supplies power to the platform and scissor's chassis.

All of the BE models are driveable at full height.

The 3-4-5 link stack design provides commonality across the entire range, the company said, and the units feature a 5-foot slide-out deck.

“The new Genie hybrid scissor lift is a best in-class series that provides users with a true ‘start to finish’ machine,” said Mark Powell, scissors product manager, Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP). “In the early stages of construction, the scissor keeps itself charged and can supply full AC power when onsite power is not available. As the jobsite progresses it can switch to hybrid or electric to meet rough terrain or indoor slab environments. This type of versatility ultimately leads to higher utilization for rental companies.”

As the name implies, the scissor lift series features two operating modes. This selectable feature meets the needs of both outdoor jobsites with no onsite power, and indoor jobsites with sensitive noise and emission environments.

When the power management hybrid operation is selected, the system automates the charging function of the integrated generator, maintaining the battery charge. All models are also equipped with an onboard charger for wall power charging.

The series’ AC sealed electric drive motors provide full performance in both operating modes.

“Compared to DC motors, these AC motors contain fewer parts and require zero maintenance due to a brushless design,” said Powell. “They run cooler and cleaner which translates to longer life and high reliability for internal parts such as wiring, brakes and bearings.”

The units feature a front active-oscillating axle, non-marking, foam-filled tires and full swing-out trays for easier access to electronics, hydrualics and batteries.

All models will be available globally in the second quarter of 2014.
