HeidelbergCement kick starts Aggregates-CI programme

15 January 2016

German-based HeidelbergCement has started its Aggregates-CI (Continuous Improvement) programme in a bid to improve the use of aggregates on global construction sites.

The new programme follows a margin improvement programme, CLIMB Commercial, which finished at the end of 2015. Aggregates-CI will be implemented at more than 500 production sites worldwide. The company said the programme would lead to savings of €120 million by the end of 2018.

Bernd Scheifele, chairman of the managing board, said, “The Aggregates-CI programme is the next logical step in the very successful development of these last years in the area of aggregates.

“We will improve the structures and processes used in the previous programme, CLIMB Commercial, in order to drive operational and commercial professionalism, and efficiency, such as in sales and distribution.”

CLIMB Commercial, which began at the end of 2012, focused on margin improvement through the use of the product and customer mix in aggregates. The company said the original target of achieving €120 million by the end of 2015 was “substantially exceeded”.

HeidelbergCement already runs a Continuous Improvement Program (CIP) in the cement business that started in 2014.
