Liebherr is introducing its truck mounted concrete pumps in North America for the first time, with one unit shown on the Conexpo stand of US distributor Reed Concrete Pumps.

The company’s concrete equipment division already sells mobile and stationary batch plants, mixers and concrete recycling systems, but this year will add its truck mounted concrete pumps in the 17 m to 58 m boom height range.

Peter Mayr, president of Liebherr Construction Equipment Co – the company’s subsidiary in North America – said at Conexpo; “Customers can expect robust and durable concrete pumps which are developed and produced in Germany and are equipped exclusively with quality components from renowned manufacturers.”

The addition of the concrete pumps is just one part of a strategy that will see Liebherr attempt to increase its earthmoving, material handling and concrete equipment business in North America. Mr Mayr said in Las Vegas that the business intended to “dramatically expand our distribution network over the next five years.”

Mr Mayr also said that Liebherr had no plans to create its own equipment rental business in North America, in contrast to its strategy in Europe where it operates the Liebherr Mietpartner operation, which is a combination of Liebherr and dealer-owned rental operations.

He said some of Liebherr’s dealers in North America had their own rental fleets but that Liebherr would not be renting equipment itself.
