Revenues up for largest rental companies in Europe

23 June 2016

Revenues were up for the largest rental companies in Europe in 2015, with the 50 largest companies in the region generating total European rental revenues of €11 billion in 2015; up 3.8% year-on-year.

The ERN50 ranking is part of the IRN100 ranking of the largest 100 rental companies in the world, published in the June issue of IRN.

French giant Loxam maintained top position in the European top 50 table with European rental revenues of €837 million. Its acquisitions during the year included OBM Construction, a modular space rental business with bases in Orleans and Rochefort du Gard, while it also negotiated the purchase of the French and Spanish businesses of Hertz Equipment Rental Corp (HERC), which is being prepared for an IPO by parent Hertz – a float scheduled to take place this summer.

Following Loxam were Finnish rivals Cramo and Ramirent, in second and third position on the European Top 50 respectively. Both companies saw growth last year despite mixed conditions in Nordic rental markets, while both are also targeting growth in the temporary space market.

Cramo acquired MDS Raumsysteme’s modular space fleet in Germany towards the end of the year, for instance, while Ramirent launching a new sub-brand – Ramirent Temporary Space – to strengthen its position in this growing market. It will certainly be interesting to see how these deals impact both companies’ position in the next European Top 50 table.

The European Top 50 also contained no less than five new entrants this year. For the full table and further analysis, see the June issue of IRN.

The IRN100 Extended Toplist – a more detailed look at this year’s IRN100 survey – will also be available in the coming months from the KHL.com Information Store.

This stand-alone, extended version of the table will not only include data on company revenues, fleet investment and industry consolidation, but also new commentary on each of the companies in the IRN100, as well as extra graphs analysing the trends.

A video featuring editor Helen Wright analysing this year’s table will also be available soon on khl.com
