Milton-Madison Bridge

07 December 2010

The new US$ 103 million Milton-Madison Bridge is expected to be open to traffic by September 15, 2012, making it the “fastest modern-day bridge built across the Ohio River”. The current steel truss bridge, built in 1929, is 3181 ft-long (970 m) and its longest span is 727 ft (222 m). It is extremely narrow with two 10-ft (3.9 m) lanes and no shoulders or sidewalk. The new truss bridge’s road deck will be widened to 40 ft (12.2 m) and will include two 12-ft (3.66 m) lanes, 8-ft (2.44 m) shoulders and a 5-ft (1.52 m) side walk cantilevered to the downstream side of the trusses.
